4200- Mining 4x4

This vehicle is part of a city mining set, but I pretend it is a construction one to go along with set 4201- Loader and Tipper and put it to work fixing up my City.  Likely with mini set 5610- Builder helping out.

This set comes with one minifig worker, vehicle with construction accessories and crate, and openable boulder with rocks and gold pieces.

I like the printed flannel shirt torso of the worker, complete with a shiny belt buckle and two tools peeking out from their holders.  His blueish grey pants match his silver lighted helmet.  He especially looks like a skilled craftsman to me due to his bushy eyebrows and goatee.  He even wears safety goggles which is good as he is meant to blow things up.

Like the other mining vehicles I have, the 4x4 is mostly yellow and comes with a mining symbol sticker for the roof.  On each side, there are holders for the supplied jackhammer and large pickaxe.  There is a small black barrier piece with orange lights on top that can both sit on the truck to provide extra visibility and can be placed near the blast site.

I'm pleased with the overall design of the truck and if you strip it of all accessories, it could pass as a normal street vehicle.  The only odd part is that the top of the doors nearly come up to a figure's head while the seat inside is flush with the bottom of the truck.  This makes it look like a minifig would first need a step ladder to get into the truck, and then have a long drop to the seat.  However, this doesn't affect the playability of the set whatsoever.

Here are the contents of the crate as well as the tools that fit on the side of the truck.  The blast warning sign is a stickered construction from which I wouldn't be able to deduce that there was explosions in the area.  The sticker print looks more like an exploding soda can, which I suppose is close enough.  I like the red plunger that sets off the dynamite as you can actually push it all the way into the red cylinder and then make everything go boom.

The large textured boulder comes with six light grey round studs (rocks) and two gold crystals.  A nice amount of gold considering we only get one in 4201- Loader and Tipper.  The other round studs are just extras from this set and others which I use as extra gems/rocks.  I'm still a big fan of the special dynamite piece, to which a timer is cleverly fitted.  The piece is in 53 sets thus far, but it will be a long time before its novelty will wear off in my mind.
