79000- Riddles for the Ring

I'm a fan of well-developed low price licensed sets, and this one fits the bill.  Representing a well-known scene in The Hobbit, this set includes Gollum and Bilbo minifigures, a boat, and an interesting cave/rock construction with special placement for the Ring.

Mr Bilbo Baggins comes with his trusty dagger, Sting.  He has medium brown short legs and torso printed with red jacket, light green shirt, and patterned scarf.  Torso detail of the jacket continues on the back.  His head is double sided, a tough look on one side, open-mouth terrified one on the other (different from the head included in 79003- An Unexpected Gathering).  His light brown hair is shaggy and hobbit-like.  See additional images below for several more views.

Gollum comes with a lovely silver fish (tasty treat, so nice to eat).  I was concerned he wouldn't look all that great, but he is well designed.  His arms are movable removable and there is a stud opening on the top of his back.  He's printed with a brown loin cloth, thinned out hair, and a fantastic facial expression featuring barred jagged teeth, menacing light blue eyes, nose slits, and wrinkles around the forehead and eyes.  Compared to the scale of minifigures, I think he should have been a tad bit bigger.  See below for alternate views.

The brown boat is a simple build, but functional, even though it can only really fit one of the two minifigures.  As detail, there are three pieces to represent bones (one is an actual Lego bone piece).

The cave/rock construction is mostly entirely dark grey and features several slanted pieces and wedges to give it a textured cut-rock look.  Here and there are some small black, brown, and tan elements, though.  The front features two hinged, so it can open up like a wardrobe.  In addition, on the side there is a bit you can turn that brings a platform construction containing the One Ring either to sight out out of sight.  I believe Lego is calling this a "reveal" function.  You can see this model with various views below.  Overall, it is a very textured looking, complex piece, which is good, especially for a ten dollar set.

The One Ring itself of course can't be to total scale, but it's to Lego accessory scale, which means being almost humorsly large, though it does fit within a minifigures hand. Notable amoung our extras, we get another One Ring, dagger, and Lego bone.
