This is my first Holiday season as an adult Lego fan, so I was really happy to find out that Lego offers a special exclusive set free with qualifying purchases on Black Friday (known to us Lego fans as Brick Friday). As a Lego VIP Member, I was glad to have the chance to get this set before Black Friday. I'm very impressed with the little set as it is a great wintry scene.
This set comes with four minifigures; one man, one woman, one boy, and one girl.
The man is the driver of the sleigh and is wearing a black/grey suit, complete with a black top hat. His white beard suggests he's a little on the older side, but still very capable of driving his horse.
The woman has dark blue pants, a button down top with fashion belt, and a small blue necklace. The back of her torso is printed with more detail from the shirt, and the back of the belt. She has black hair that is slightly wavy and ends at her Lego elbows. In the back, you can also see a little braided detail. She's wearing a very nice toothy smile.
Both of the children have the same prints on their head: brown eyebrows, three freckles on each cheek, and an open mouthed smile. The boy has short light grey pants, a green winter jacket with grey zipper, and his hands are dark grey as they are gloved. The back printing on his torso shows more detail from his jacket. His hair is light brown with a bit of a styling in the front.
The girl is my favourite minifig in this set, and one of my favorite minfigs overall. She has short brown pants, a medium blue jacket with belt and light purple scarf, and her gloved hands are white. The back of her torso shows some detail of the jacket, scarf and belt. Her ponytailed hair is dark brown and extends to nearly the end of her torso in the back, while in the front she has long bangs that hang on either side of her face.
The sleigh comes with a new brown horse, which can be detached and walk around freely. The red sleigh itself is very sleek looking with many curved and slanted elements. The sides feature small green decorative pieces on each side of the sleigh. There is ample room for the driver in the front, and room in the back for one sitting passenger and one standing one. It's worth to note that the sitting person cannot sit properly if he/she has hair longer than the one given to the woman minifigure (which would have to be pretty lengthy). The sleigh comes with a whip for the driver to use, but as I don't like whips in any non-fantasy Lego situations, it's not in my pictures.
Now for the snowy section. The use of smaller plates and white cheese wedges (aka roof tile 1x1x2/3rds) create a nice layered, textured effect to create the idea of uneven snow. The brown bench is simple, but looks smooth and fantastic. The seat and back are connected via a "fork and stub" mechanism so you can adjust the way the back sits if you like. The two pine trees on the left are smaller than I would have liked, but do a lot to add to the scene. I really love the lamppost in this set. The two lights are made of transparent minifig heads, instead of simple cylinders, which gives it a fuller, more rounded look. Very fitting, the lamppost also has a little wreath-like decoration.
